About Bright Design

Why does color matter?
I decided to start a blog simply about color. Although color is an abstract concept, it is something we’ve all seen. Our own culture and personal connections affect our experience of color. Ultimately color has had an affect on each and every one of us. Colors have the power to influence the body as well as the mind. Color is a source of light and light is a source of energy. Scientists have discovered that physiological changes take place in human beings when certain colors are revealed. Colors have the ability to stimulate, excite, depress, and create a feeling of warmth or coolness in a room or towards a subject, among other things.
Whether you’re designing a new theme for a room in your home, wrapping up a gift or creating a presentation, the colors that are chosen, along with the overall content, will largely affect the final outcome. This blog would be a good read for anyone who is interested in making color work for them, or even people who just have a general interest in color.
The first time I became fascinated with color and the emotions it can evoke in a person was when I moved to my first apartment. I couldn't decide on a theme and it bothered me because I wanted a comfy home with pops of color to look at. I needed for people to be fascinated with the color scheme but I still wanted there to be room for the eye to breath. I ended up deciding on white and black furniture, white walls, and pops of color in trinkets, wall decorations and curtains. I settled into my new space and was happily content. The second time I found myself being fascinated with color was about a year ago when I started my job at Wine & Canvas, a painting studio in Granger, Indiana. With painting being one of my outlets of expression it would be easy to make the connection on how color continues to affect my current life.
I expect anyone who has an interest in color and it’s affects on life to check out my blog and feel free to share. I am always interested to see what colors excite you.

  1. Hi!
I loved your first blog post! I can really relate to wanting a comfortable living space without it being too cluttered with stuff/colors. My living room is all browns and creams but with pops of aqua blue all over the place. It adds a touch of fun without being too "in your face." I've also found that painting an accent wall does wonders for making a room colorful without hurting any eyes. Sadly, I rent the house I live in now, so no painting for me! :(

    1. Hi Cora!
I'm happy you enjoyed my introductory post. Your living room sounds cozy. I like the way neutral browns & beiges make an aqua blue pop to the eye. I'm also renting at the moment and am unable to paint. It's a disappointment because the walls aren't even white, they're off white. However, there are always wall decals and wallpapers if you're really looking to do an accent wall. I made an accent wall using card stock and it's super easy. I'll actually be doing a post on that project. Thanks for commenting : )

  2. As an artist, I understand and share your appreciation for color. You made an interesting point, color is a form of light and light is a form of energy. Light directly effects personal energy, and mood. For example, a bright, sunny day motivates a bright, blissful energy, while a dark, gloomy day creates a feeling of laziness. Color often works in the same way.
Oddly, I draw and paint, but I am terrible at home decor. Luckily, my home was already painted when we bought.

    1. Hello Jasmine!
I enjoyed your example of a bright and sunny day putting someone in a happy mood and a gloomy day putting people in a hazy state. I feel people should make the place that they spend the most time in a relaxing and positive space. As an artist I'm sure you're able to evoke emotions in people through your own drawings and paintings

  3. Hi!
As I was reading your post I was thinking to myself, "I thought I was the only one obsessed with color". I have always loved bright colors for everything. I love picking different colors that go together. I always feel like colors can express how you are feeling and what you are thinking. I like to think I'm a bright person, and I often get made fun of when people ask me what my favorite color is. I usually respond with "Pink, mint green, and glitter". Yes, I believe glitter is a color and a very important one at that!!

    1. Hi Kylie!
Glitter is important for so many reasons, such as an accent nail or decorating a poster for advertisement. Pink and mint green are great colors. I'm more of a fan of pastel pinks rather than harsh pinks.
